Vineyard Notes
The Kautz Family grows these Verdelho grapes at Ironstone Estate vineyards in Calaveras County. The vineyards are located 2400 ft. above sea level where warm days are cooled by the evening mountain air. This area’s unique solid of decomposed granite mixed with volcanic sediment and red clay produce a wonderful mineral component.
Winemaker Notes
The 2019 Limited Release Verdelho is very floral on the nose with delightful notes of honeydew, d’anjou pears, tangerine, pineapple and nutmeg. This is followed by beautiful fragrances of lemon, pineapple, citrus and spice that captivates the flavors and accentuates the intense minerality. It is medium bodied with a long and clean finish.
Food Pairing Notes
Verdelho is a wonderful companion with citrus marinated quail that has been pan seared with a wild rice and farro salad. Also great with light fish dishes and chicken in light pasta sauces.
