A lush blackberry nose and savory black cherry taste, the 2020 Port is a wonderfully rich fortified wine that is balanced nicely with rich and sweet characteristics. The huge nose of concentrated ripe blackberries is followed by big, rich mouth-filling flavors of caramel and dark chocolate
The 2020 Ironstone Vineyards Port is a Portuguese-styled Port made of two classic Portuguese port varietals: 50% Souzão grape and 50% Tinta Negra (Tinta de Madeira). These premium grapes were allowed to ripen on the vine for an extended period of time before harvesting to ensure richer, fuller varietal characteristics. To ensure quality, Ironstone practices the same traditional production methods used in the Douro region of Portugal where the very best ports in the world are made.

Vineyard Notes
The Souzäo and Tinta Negra varietals, both traditional Portuguese grape varieties, have taken root to their California home in the Lodi AVA. Lodi, with its classic Mediterranean climate, has similar temperatures and rainfall to its native Portugal. Lodi is an ideal growing region for world-class winegrapes in the mineral-rich sandy loam, well-drained soils.

Other Notes
Sustainable Viticulture: At Ironstone, the vineyard manager, has at his disposal, a variety of sound, ecological vineyard practices which can be employed depending on what Mother Nature delivers during the growing season. We use crop reduction, leaf removal, organic materials, and drip irrigation to improve the quality and intensity of flavors. Cover crops, which attract beneficial insects, are also employed. In addition, we place owl and wood duck boxes around the vineyards and ponds helping to preserve the surrounding habitats.
