Gardens

The gardens, at Ironstone, play host to a multitude of public and private events year round. These include concerts, weddings, picnics, barbeques and games, and the spectacular Concours d'Elegance classic car show that's held every September. Throughout the 14 acres, you'll find thousands of plant varieties and species as well as antique winemaking, mining and railroad equipment.

The annual "color parade" kicks off in March with an explosive burst of over 300,000 daffodils that signal the coming of Spring and herald our annual festival of food, wine, art and Daffodils. Tulips, Camellias, Dutch Iris, Rhododendrons and Azaleas follow. As the summer months fade to the hustle and bustle of harvest, the grounds come alive with rich hues of crimson red, bright orange and ochre when leaves put on their annual show of Fall colors. Even during winter one can find splashes of color amidst the lush evergreens and occasional light dusting of snow.

Lakeside Park

Lakeside Park is a graceful, flower-filled, manicured garden on the cattail-lined shores of our natural lake. A picturesque setting, complete with natural stone pathways and shaded outdoor tables and benches, is the perfect locale for a picnic lunch prepared by our Gourmet Deli.

The park is one of the most versatile and utilized areas of the winery and hosts a myriad of public and private events throughout the year. From weddings, to garden parties, to evening dances under the stars.

Arbor

Located near the Breezeway, the fragrant and lovely white and purple Japanese wisteria-covered arbor is 400 feet long. In its midst, surrounded by beautiful flowers and rocks, you’ll find an old-fashioned covered wood bridge with a stream running underneath.

The arbor is a lovely place for a stroll, and on special occasions, chairs and tables are arranged throughout the arbor where guests can enjoy our award-winning wines and fabulous lunches from our Gourmet Deli.

Meet our Master Gardener

The beauty of Ironstone's landscape would not be possible without Master Gardener, Larry Ringland. Larry heads the team of 13 gardeners who are responsible for maintaining our garden landscape year-round.

Larry’s work with the Kautz family began 44 years ago in 1972, long before the humble beginnings of Ironstone Vineyards flagship in Murphys. His love of the great outdoors led Larry to study Dendrology (the scientific study of trees) at Santa Rosa Junior College. Throughout college, Larry worked at Highland Ranch in Philo, California, as a caretaker for the horses. It was through this line of work that he was introduced to Kramer Ranch in Murphys. Here he would continue his work with horses, although bigger plans were in store for his green thumb.

The plush and colorful grounds of Ironstone Vineyards would not be what they are today without Larry Ringland’s vibrant vision and hard work. His work has been enjoyed and photographed by visitors from around the world.
